Rebecca Ok is the founder of PATHLIGHT LEGAL. Rebecca has worked in the legal industry for over 15 years with law firms of all sizes. She has supported legal teams on a variety of commercial litigation and general civil litigation matters.
Rebecca has a rare talent for digesting large quantities of documents and piecing together a compelling narrative from those documents. She started PATHLIGHT LEGAL to share this talent with other attorneys.
Rebecca strongly believes that the best legal narratives are firmly grounded in the documents. Rebecca’s approach to review and analysis can reveal themes and threads that would otherwise get overlooked. Once revealed, these themes and threads can completely alter the strategy of a case.
Rebecca graduated cum laude from Lewis & Clark School of Law, where she served as an editor of the Lewis & Clark Law Review.
Farmer v. Agricultural Supply Co. – Client Farmer suffered large-scale crop loss following unauthorized application of a pesticide to their fields by Agricultural Supply Co. Farmer filed suit against Company for $3.4M in damages. Rebecca’s review revealed that Company had not followed best practices in collecting text messages from its numerous employees. Following a motion to compel on this and other issues, Company settled the case for $3.1M.
Freight Carrier v. Client – Client counter-sued Freight Carrier for $2.1M in shipping overcharges. Prior law firm recommended a walk away. Rebecca’s review revealed that, despite representations to Client, Carrier never intended to refund the overcharges and the data needed to evaluate the overcharges had been deleted. Rebecca’s analysis formed the basis of a successful spoliation motion and changed legal theory that brought Carrier to the settlement table.
Commercial Bank v. Client – Bank filed for summary judgment seeking collection of $3.4M debt against Client pursuant to a personal guarantee. Rebecca’s review suggested that Bank had continued lending funds to Client knowing that doing so would trigger a default. Rebecca’s analysis formed the basis for the response and follow up discovery requests. Bank ultimately offered to settle for $650,000.
Client v. Cannabis Company – Company forced out Shareholder Client and offered pennies on the dollar to buy back Client’s shares. Litigation focused on fair market valuation. Rebecca crafted a counter-narrative to Company’s narrative that the shares were essentially worthless due to Client’s failings. Client ultimately received $4.1M for their shares.
Home Buyer v. Client – Client entered into sale agreement for their rental property to Buyer, mistakenly believing the real estate agent represented both parties. When Client asked to renegotiate the terms, Buyer sued to enforce the contract. Buyer sought specific performance, claiming the home was to be their family home. Rebecca’s review revealed that Buyer intended to use the home as a rental property. Arbitrator was convinced but found for Buyer on different grounds.
